LEARN ABOUT SHOOTS
Professional dance photography by a dance professional.
My name is Rachael Dyer, also known as Movita Beaucoup. I am a dance photographer living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I’ve been photographing dancers who value showcasing technique and artistry since 2016.
I accept bookings from dancers aged 12+ (by the date of the shoot). I have a limited number of sessions available for younger dancers each season. Several years of training is recommended in order to get the most out of your session.
I shoot all sorts/genres of dance. I offer sessions for individuals, small groups, and dance studios (group, team, grad, and mini sessions). I typically shoot in HRM, Nova Scotia but will happily travel to other locations (in NS or another province). There will be additional fees if booking a shoot outside of HRM.
Your dance photos should meet and compliment your training.
If you’ve been dancing for a while, I bet you have some dance photos that you’d like to forget. A sickled foot, an unstretched leg, an out-of-focus jump shot, a positively unflattering angle. It’s possible your photos were taken by someone lacking expertise in dance technique.
I can almost guarantee you’ll never want to share those photos with anyone.
If you’ve made it this far in your training, why hold back now?
There’s nothing like the disappointment of photographs that don’t showcase proper technique and lack attention to the details that are most important to a dancer.
Let’s take some photos that you will actually use.
My style of dance photography is intentional; a marriage of good technique and artistry. I take the time to refine poses during your shoot, correcting lines and angles for the camera. I hope this allows you to lean in and enjoy your session. I hope this builds trust. If you’re looking for a photographer immersed in all things dance, you have found your match.
Creative shoots are a wonderful way to showcase your personality and the qualities that make you a great dance artist. We will work together during sessions to highlight the talent that sets you apart. You work hard, train hard, and show up every day. Your photos should reflect that dedication.
I won’t even edit a photo of you that doesn’t demonstrate your abilities properly. I focus on quality over quantity, and don’t edit mediocre photos to simply increase the number of photos in your set. If it doesn’t meet my standards, it certainly won’t meet yours.
My sessions place emphasis on trust, guidance and care, and provide a nurturing and safe environment for dancers.
