Meet Movita.
Hey there! I’m Rachael Dyer, also known as Movita Beaucoup (long story). I am a dance photographer based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I’ve been photographing dancers since 2016, and officially launched my photography business in 2019. I only shoot dance. It’s my most favourite thing to do.
I taught dance in Toronto and the Maritimes for close to 30 years. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I retired from studio life and took a gamble on focusing solely on my photography business.
Should you decide to book a shoot, I will be entirely focused on making you look your best. If you value showcasing your technique and artistry, I’m the photographer for you. I hope the photos we capture together will be a wonderful way to remember this time in your dance journey.
I adore connecting with dancers and would love to hear from you. It’s important that we work together only if we share the same vision, so there’s no pressure to book after I send you information. (My Instagram feed will give you a good idea of what I do.)
I know dance.
I’m a graduate of the Teacher Training Program at Canada’s National Ballet School and obtained certification with the Royal Academy of Dance, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (National Branch), and the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association.
As a former dancer and teacher, I know and appreciate the work it takes to progress as a dancer. I always do my best to capture your dedication with my camera.
My approach.
I’m fussy about technique – I hope to capture you at your best and showcase your strengths. When you book a shoot with me you are hiring a photographer AND a dance coach. I draw on decades of teaching experience to help you with posing and fine tuning your technique. I don’t stand on formalities and do my best to make you feel at ease during your shoot.
The photos you see in my IG feed/portfolio are the result of time and care invested in each dancer I work with.
