The importance of

Warming Up

Warming up before your session is crucial for preventing injuries. Thoroughly preparing your body before getting in front of a camera will allow you to showcase your full range of abilities. This is particularly important if you have jumps and extensions planned.

Every dancer should understand the importance of warming up before any occasion requiring them to use their body safely. A proper warm-up helps bodies prepare for physical exertion; it increases heart rate, lubricates joints, improves range of motion, and if done properly, raises core temperature.

A good warm-up also helps dancers mentally transition from everyday life to the challenges of performing in class, on stage, or in front of a camera. In a photo shoot, a warm body will balance better, have higher extensions, and will be better able to coordinate movements such as challenging jumps.

Dress in warm, layered clothing when arriving for sessions, and get that body moving as soon as you can. Remember: stretching is not a warm up – it should be done after the body’s core temperature has been raised, so muscles are more elastic and resilient. A good warm-up typically takes at least 15 minutes.

Take care of your body. Arrive early, warm up!
